…Or maybe not. It’s not really here yet, but I guess it’s sort of starting. It’s really sad that Halloween isn’t the same as it was 5 or more years ago. By this time years ago all the leaves were gone, fall was in full swing, there was actual weather here (rain, wind, cold), things were amazing because it actually felt like Halloween and that Summer was over.
Unfortunately it’s been like this for the last many years, no real change in season until late in the year. Oh well, at least we can look at this and pretend it’s here. Amazingly this was shot on my old Canon SD400.
Another from my friends place, awesome stuff all over, including the bunny mask of doom which has made many appearances… Canon 5D with some sort of 22″ beauty dish lighting… might have been ceiling bounced, I don’t remember. Great color tones here, I love blues/yellows/browns. PS. give me that shirt already I want it!
One from the vault of yore. Sweet looking alley on Pasadena right off Colorado Blvd.
Such a beautiful building here in Downtown Los Angeles, here’s a more abstract shot of it of it’s amazing architecture.
Found this photo just recently along with the Backyard Soccer photo. I think she was yelling or laughing or something, I don’t remember. I really need to use this cam more, just heavy as hell, 5 lbs all loaded, pretty nuts. All manual as well so it’s either Sunny 16 or my Sekonic light meter, but that’s just slow :P Crazy detail in this photo though, medium format film just kills. Mamiya RB67 50mm f/4.5
A recent polaroid shot from Downtown, LA. For some reason this is one of my favs in as long as I can remember. There’s something about the angles, colors of the brick and the vertical dodging that’s going on, just something special to me. The fire escape and weird fenced in pen on the lower building are a pretty awesome too.
Another from this series when I was shooting in Downtown LA, I really like this one, it’s very surreal to me, the building and bridge just look fake in a cool way.
Some black and white film shot on my Canon Elan 7 50mm f/1.4 using Trix 400 exposed at 1600 and self developed.
Photo #2 from the Headless Series.
So I’ve been toying around with this idea for ages in my head. I was going to sleep one night and woke up all of the sudden with it, I got up immediately went over to the computer and started tying up ideas. A few hours later, I had what I thought was a good starting point.
I’ve been working on this first series of 4 photos for many months now on and off but have finally decided to post them up. I will continue to do more, but here’s the start. Look for the other 3 in the coming days.
Collection of old skate decks hanging on a friend’s wall.
Shot this weekend of my friend at his place. Little jack on the rocks in a nice matching glass. Canon 5D 24-70 f/2.8 and a 36″ softbox on the floor angled up.

Neat little laundromat in North Hollywood on Magnolia / Craner, cool vintage sort of colors. Canon 5D 24-70 f/2.8
Went to this amazing little book store today in North Hollywood called Iliad Bookshop, a huge and great collection of used and rare books. I managed to pick up a copy of Michael White’s 100 Suns for only $25. An awesome place to check out if you’re a book enthusiast.
Here’s a quick snap of one of their many impressive isles filled to the brim with books.

*EDIT: I had to close the comments on this because I get about 5 porn spams a day relating to this… why?
I think that’s the name of this building… Polaroid 669 ID film taken with a 440 in Downtown Los Angeles. There’s a lot of great architecture and history in this whole area, I’ve shot many packs of film over the past few months here.
I just love the way Polaroid film portrays these old buildings and places, to me it really seems to take you back to their hay day.
A quick peak at some new post work from an old shoot. I like to pull out older stuff from time to time and see how I treated it at the time, then see what I could have done differently. In this new set, it’s got a very different emotion than what I had originally done, but I like the darker feel of them all. I’ll post a before and after sometime.

Another at Cleveland / Kenmare at this great looking little stop called The Corner.
From the top of the Empire State Building. New York is quite beautiful from above, so much architecture.
From my recent trip to NYC (which happened to be my first), this was taken at Broadway / Canal - I’ve got a million more from this trip I’ll be posting in the future.
Here I’ll be showing you how to turn some bland snaps you’ve got sitting around into vintage works of art. I’ll be giving a quick and easy explanation for how to achieve something like the look I’ve gotten in the photo below.

Below we have my two source images and my Photoshop layers palette. As you can see the source photo is a bland quick snap, next to that we’ve got a texture I scanned from a book, and lastly my layers palette. It’s pretty much self-explanatory with my settings in the layer names. All you’re really doing is duplicating your photo and setting each to a different mode which give a different effect.
Then as a final touch I’ve added the adjustment layers above it to help with saturation and contrast. All I’m doing with the contrast is increasing the highlights and shadows as well ass boosting some midtones so it doesn’t blow out as much.
Of course there are a thousand ways to spin-off of this method, so go ahead and try different things to get effects that you like.
Playing around in a friend’s backyard with a rubber ball and nearly got smacked in the face. Shot with a Mamiya RB67 50mm f/4.5 (This snap just reminded me of the song Backyards by BSS, fantastic track, check it out here)
First of a few taken in Downtown Los Angeles. Canon 20D 24-70 f/2.8 @ 1600
These are from when I shot and developed my first roll of color film by myself. It was some old expired Fuji 400, not sure if all the dust is from the film or the fact that I squeegeed it… either way, I got some great shots out of it. Taken with Bessa R3A.
From a trip to Yosemite a little while back. Nice golden trees during the fall.
A few quick Polaroids of some nice patterns in nature.
Drive by snap of an old trailer with my Polaroid 420 pack film camera. Shot with Polaroid 669 film. The whole shot reminds me of the old days.
A new shot in my set of Hollywood Miniature series. This time looking west over Hollywood towards the old Pacific Theaters and the surrounding living areas. Canon 20D Hartblei 85mm T/S.
Walking to my car on the way home I snapped a few from the hip candid shots of this mother with her two daughters. One had this great fairy costume on and the other can be seen off in the background with a white dress on. In the second photo the other daughter is now the focus. The T/S gives a great effect to these two shots. Taken with Canon 20D Hartblei 85mm T/S.
Taken at Fred 62’s Diner in Hollywood of my friend Mack. Canon Elan7 50mm f/1.4 w/ Trix 400 @ 1600 (I hate Snow Patrol btw)
Went to Royal Hall a while back, here’s one of my fav snaps of the place. Taken with my old trusty Olympus OM1 50mm f/1.4 w/ Trix 400 @ 1600
Well here we have it, I’m starting my photo blog back up finally! Hope to have a new image each day for your enjoyment.
Here we have 2 shots from a single day taken from Hollywood / Cahuenga. The first of which was taken around 2:30pm and the second taken at Sunset around 6:15pm.
